If Georgia’s agriculture industry had more Tyler Harpers, its biggest challenge — a critical shortage of people — would melt away.

State Sen. Tyler Harper, an Irwin County farmer now campaigning to become Georgia’s commissioner of agriculture, visited Statesboro on Friday and talked about how he wants to build on his past role in farming-related legislation to become the state’s leading official promoter of agriculture, its largest industry.

While it would be nice — though impossible in today’s ultra-partisan atmosphere — to throw out all the stereotypical political hoo-hah that now inundates every element of modern-day life and talk about what really matters, that’s just not reality.

A Republican candidate for Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper announced last week that nearly every Republican member of the Georgia State Senate had endorsed his campaign. Harper is currently a State Senator representing Ocilla and the surrounding area.
